Here was a good chatroom from Benji and co. Perhaps they could activate that again?

I alo agree, we should have a chat room
1 where we can have individual chat for
1 to 1 conversations this way we do not
need to wait ages for a reply to a PM.
the only problem that i can see is with group
chatting this could damage the Forum for there
would be less posts being made!!
What do you think Joe, Rijko, would Haidee go for it?

There is a chat room attached to the Yahoo Group; but there are no regular meetings there.

To be honest, I am not so interested in having a chat room.
Benji had one some time ago, but I don't know whether it is still active.
For me, this chat room wasn't such a success. Only one or two members joined in and there was always the time zone difference. I sometimes use ICQ to talk directly to someone. Chat sessions with more people are almost always messy and unorganised, and therefore seldomly a success. Moreover, conversation is often limited to short sentences.
I prefer to communicate throught the forum, pm's, emails and sometimes ICQ.
But if anyone wants to set up a chatroom, go ahead. For this, I suggest to pm Benji and ask if his chatroom is still active.

Hummm ... I would tend to agree with Arioch ...
It is true that chat rooms conversations are utterly unorganized, often pointless (heck, i m the king of pointless arguments) , and you can bet that most of the conversation will not turn around VM.
But a chat bring another dimension to an online community, the faster more interactive communication give it a more personnal tone. A chat and a forum are tools that serve completely different purposes for an online community.
Ohhh... well ... these where my 2 cents ... Canadian cents that is .. so make that 1.53 cents US.

Well ... IMO:
1). Ask Benji.
2). Some IM programs can handle group chats; and they are faster than PMs.
3). I still haven't reloaded my PC, so I still don't have Java machine, so I can't chat anywhere ... I prefer boards anyway. I type slow, I think slower.
4). Yahoo can be used even though we hang out here.
5). All conversations don't have to revolve around VM. :O

as amQhr said Benji had a chat program set up which could be used through both browser and IRC (mIRC). I just tried this again, and couldent get it to work so i guess the server has been taken down.
chat rooms are a lot of fun, in a way it sometimes brings a community closer together as you get to know people a little better, but as with benji's when theres only 1 or 2 on due to different time zones like Rijko said, they dont work too well.
ICQ usually works well, haidee and i got most of the site up and running through that.
for thoes interested, it could be an idea to start a new thread (or use this one as it somewhat seems appropriate) and post your icq numbers if you want others to add you.
(if theres enough numbers ill need to try reinstall icq)
