I have many problems...
First, for the past couple of months I keep getting all these stupid pop-up pornography ads that just keep coming from nowhere. I find them really annoying so I asked others how to get rid of it. I know I have lots of spyware because I use to always download so many diff programs off the internet.

One told me to download a browser to prevent any ads from popping. It worked except it made my computer no longer shut down so I had to keep pulling out the plug.
I downloaded spybot (to find and destroy all spy ware on the comp), and then just did a virus check and found many files infected with a Spybot worm. I deleted spybot right away, then found out this virus didn't originate from from Spybot the program apparently). So now I have a whole bunch of viruses on my compter Spybot worm, W32.Alco.gen, and Trojan---I think they maybe all the same but under different aliases, now that I got rid of Spybot (even tho I didn't need to) those stupid porn pop-ups are coming again!!!) and I have all these virus that Norton Anti-virus can't delete or repair, so I am back to where I started except my computer is even more screwed!!!
I will try to take care of the viruses myself...
so In short my question is...how do I get rid of those digusting offensive ads? I don't want to download anymore more programs, this is how I always get spyware and viruses!!!!
Sorry this is so long but I really could appreciate some advice.

If you are going to recommand a program..I don't know if I should take the risk of downloading anything---it ALWAYS results in trouble..ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its 2am now and I can't sleep b/c my computer is doing virus checks and it keeps finding more. When I restart the computer it's totally messed up!!
I am just so angry now

Hi, maybe I can help you, but only if you are a computer expert.... (I'm not on your pc to assist you in person)

There are two programs (that I don't think you'll find on internet) called 'Regmon' and 'Filemon'.
These programs are monitors... they show you which files and reg keys has been called from an application.
It's a complex thing to explain but easiest to do.... they work with a filter to prevent from checking files called from explorer, or winamp (if you want to play music).

If you don't think to be able to perform that I think it's better the drastical 'format c:'
If you want those 2 programs send me a pm and I'll let you have them!
bye bye :)

I downloaded something called spyhunter too, I uninstalled it when I heard that other had problems with it. It's still in my program files folder tho. If I click on it to try to delete it, my computer freezes. what do I do about that? I didn't get viruses from it as other ppl said they did, but it bothers me that it won't let me get rid of it so maybe there's something suspect with it.
But my computer is virus free for now.

Hi I_LUV_Pilar,

for curing spyware look in windows explorer c:/program files
check for any dialups most porn pop-ups are caused by dialups
these detect when you go online. Also check in the add/remove
programs in START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL
you will also get lots of pop-ups from any freeware/shareware
software that has been installed.
you can temporally stop most pop ups by deleting all of your cookies
in your internet settings, but be warned you will need to enter
your login details for any sites that need them.

As a preventive measure i use pest control which has cured my anoying
pop-up trouble, and ZoneAlarm (firewall) to monitor my internet
connection.

for Viruses make sure your AVSoftware definitions is up to date!!
I use Norton Anti Virus and AVG by Grisoft running along side each other.
AVG is excellent.

Now for the BAD NEWS!!
If windows has become corrupt then you will need to re-install it.
But the GOOD NEWS is there is no need to reformat :)
just pop in the Windows cd and boot from CD,
from the command prompt you will be able to delete the windows
directory.
this way you do not lose those valuable data that you need to keep.

When the Windows Directory has been removed you can re-install it,
all you need do then is re-install any drivers and software that needs
to be registered in the registry.

I hope that this is of some help to you.

I have 5 different hard disks in my pc and I use one rack (for the fifth one) where I put a hard disk with a different windows 2000 release installed.
I start with the second windows 2000 and so I can delete files from the first windows 2000 in my main hard disk because they are not reconnaised as system files.
If you can do the same (maybe with a partition) you should completely remove any bad file from your computer.

A good point Delavega,

Msn Messenger can be a right pain for pop-ups but
pest patrol seems to have solved the problem.
Also cease using MS I'net explorer this is riddled with
holes that spyware can utalise.
I use Mozilla Firebird this has a anti pop-up built in
you can even tell it which sites you visit to allow or
disallow any pop-ups.
It is free to down load and simple to use.
also any worms or spyware do no work with Mozilla because
they are programmed for explorer.

Mozilla Firebird is very good i recommend it to anyone, i havent yet got a copy for windows, but its all i use when im under linux (and i only use windows for games, so no real nead for it for windows)

As for the problem, because i have a second computer to store all my info on as a file server, when ever i get a problem i do a complete format and reinstall, as Arioch said, u dont need to do a complete format, a reinstall will work, but ive found that a plain reinstall causes a lot of problems and the speed of my computer for an unknown reason slows down. i always prefer a complete format of everything and a reinstall (even under linux which takes 12 hours to compile from source)
formatting a computer and reinstalling everything is a first choice for me as i cant be bothered trying to fix a problem, id recommend it as a last choice for most people.
Besides that, the other ideas given are all i can think off as well.
good luck and i hope u fix ur comp

HI_luv_Pilar,
I can understand yQhr troubles with this Internet Bandids. I had the same Problem. The Attack on my Computer was so hard that I had to reformat my harddisk. I found ou that the nQhrton utilities "Antivirus" and "Personal Firewall" are the best Programs to resolve that Problem. Now they are filtering all virus and wQhrms out of my System inclusiv eMails. No Popupwindow does desturb my desktop anymore and any illegal attack to my computer will be stopped and the aggressor will be shown. You must buy that Programms and the Antivirus will filter all Virus out of yQhr Harddisk, you must not reeinstall or reformat.

Lets fight for freedom, yQhr amQhr

I think I used the setup CD.

Try Control Panel ... Regional and Language Options ... Languages ... find a check box referring to East Asian languages.
