Different CD Editions - Need Help!

Post by MSam »

Hey Guys :)

I'm a fan of crossover musicians. Bond, Wild ect. So when I heard about Vanessa Mae I was interested!

I bought a Vanessa Mae album at the start of the year (Choreography), and I was instantly hooked! I couldn't believe I had been missing out on this! So after much looking for albums, I finally got my hands on Subject to Change. I loved it, even more than Choreography :D

Next I got Violin Player. Then I ordered Storm from Canada. I got the Devil's Trill Single (a personal favorite :) ). I want more! I was about to order 'The Ultimate' last night, when I saw a different version. It was a Dutch version (?) so I decided I had better wait and ask for some help. I was surfing the net when I found a very informative VM site. Only thing was it didn't tell me the differences. Then I found out there was a special Edition of The Four Seasons! Then I found out there was a special for Subject to Change, The Best of Vanessa Mae and Storm!

So the reason I have come here is to ask you some questions! I figured you guys are all pretty big fans!

Questions
-What is the difference between:
The Ultimate and The Ultimate?

-What is the difference between:
The Original Four Seasons and The Original Four Seasons (Asian Edition)?

I'd be very thankful if you guys could help me out (or could suggest where to look to find them!)!

Thanks,
Sam :)

Hi MSam,

Great to see a new fan of Vanessa-Mae comming to this forum. Yes, you are right: this is the place to be if you want to find out more about Vanessa-Mae.

Your questions:

question 1
The dutch version of The Ultimate differs from the original release in booklet and track lisitng on a few details with respect to track order, version and a 2 titles. Below are images of the original booklet and the Dutch booklet (below).

Image

Image

The track lisitngs are as follows:

Ultimate general release
Classical gas
I feel love
Picante
Red hot
Yantra
Power of C
Leyenda
Cotten eye joe (live)
Can Can (live)
Widescreen
Night flight
Toccata & fugue (live)
Allegro (from Spring, the four seasons)
Scherzo in C minor

Ultimate Dutch release
Red hot
I feel love
Classical gas
Picante
Can Can
Yantra
Leyenda
Bach street prelude
Widescreen
Night flight
Scherzo
Allegro (from Spring, the four seasons)
Toccata & fugue (live)
Cotton eye joe (live)

EMI released also another collection album with the title The Best Of Vanessa-Mae. See the image below:

Image

This album exists in a general release and a special limited Asian release that had a photo alum as bonus. The track lisitng the The best of is as follows:

The Best Of Vanessa-Mae
Art of war (Power of C)
Toccata & fugue
Destiny
Nessun Dorma (exerpt from violin fantasy on puccini's turandot)
I Am A Doun (A little Scotish fantasy)
Storm
I feel love
Bach street prelude
Aurora
The Original Four Seasons - Winter prt III

All these collection albums are interesting because all hold 'Art Of War' (aka Power OF C) that was not on any of Vanessa-Mae's general releases. Also, the Ultimate's have live versions of a few songs that were taken from Vanessa-Mae's famous and televised Red Hot Tour concert in the Royal Albert Hall on June 30 1995.

question 2
The Asian release of the 'Original Four Seasons' hold a bonus vcd that was not available with the general release. This bonus vcd holds the video clips for 'The Devils Trill' and 'Reflection,' as well as Vanessa-Mae's silent movie 'The Violin Fantasy' and the short documentary 'The making of the Siemens Ad.' This vcd is really an interesting item to have!

additional info
Vanessa-Mae's album Storm has 3 differetn releases: a european, an american and an asian release. All 3 have the same track listing, but have different booklets with different cover photos. Also the Asian relelase has a bonus vcd with the video clips for Storm and I Feel Love.

The same holds for 'Subject To Change' that too has an Asian relase with a bonus vcd. This vcd holds the video clips for Destiny and White Bird as well as an interesitng footage where Vanessa-Mae talks about her new album.

Anyway for more info see 'Vanessa-Mae's discography' that is on my website.

I hope this answers your questions adequately.

I you have anymore, then please let us know!![/i]

MSam,

I just noticed that STC + bonus vcd is still available at:

http://www.cdimportplus.com/

I think that I bought the Original Four Season Asian edition there too, but thaty one is now out of stock currently. Also, my dear friend Daisy from Hong Kong bought some special editions for me too. Among these, Vanessa-Mae's debut album 'Violin.'

Another possibillity is to keep an eye on ebay (ebay.com). these special releases show up there form time to time.

Good luck!

Hey MSam,

You may also want to try the USA company website:

http://www.cduniverse.com

and do a search on Vanessa-Mae. I found Choreography (2 different versions) and Subject to Change (British version) there as well as other albums including a Chinese release of the Red Hot DVD in the American video format(NTSC)
