Hi all,
Here are some latest news about VM. She is featured in today's South China Morning Post.
- 75% the coming concert (Asian Tour) will be taken from the STC though there are older pieces as well. This may be the last time she performs so much crossover. Speaking from her London home, "I want to ditch that stuff. I'm tired of it. I've been doing it for 8 years.....I don't want to mix it any more. Now, I want to do either 100% pop or 100% classical. I'll do two different styles of tour from now on."
- She also asserts that she is young (only 23), would rather live life and make mistakes than be safe.
- Is the planned split from her crossover partly to do with groups such as Bond and the Planets copying her style? "Possibly. It's good to be a trailblazer, and flattering to be copied, but if you trailblaze you naturally want to do so again. I'll be remembered for the genre, which is fine, but I want to try something new. I don't want the classical crossover to end, I'd like to see kids doing it, but I'll leave it to the others."
- Something new could mean jazz-funk collaborations with the artist formerly known as Prince, with whom she has been jamming recently. "Prince always had great guitars and I wanted to be a bit different on stage, get away from the classical thing, be more visual, so I used a see-through violin..."
- A chinese webpage has disclosed that Vanessa has terminated her relationship with EMI but agreed to take part in any promotion for the "Best of" cd. Well, personally, I'm not surprised to hear this. When the "Best of" cd came out, I did have a feeling that she is leaving EMI. Anyway, we'll have a clear picture when her new website is launched.

I would be very surprised if Vanessa-Mae would not use pieces like Storm, Red Hot, T&F and Power of C in future pop tour concerts. The audience loves seeing her performing this music. Besides one new future pop album does not provide enough material to base a whole new tour of concerts on.
Also, Vanessa-Mae did not specifically say that she wouldn't use some of the old songs in the future again. Her music so far has simply too much power and energy to be ignored, even by Vanessa-Mae herself.

I wish her tours were less Europe and Asia-centric, well from what I have read anyway. I have been hoping she would come down to Australia.. I'm sure we would love her down here. And also Canada and the States. I know she isn't as popular there as she is in Asia and Europe but a little promotion if it is once in a few years can't hurt. The US markets could also use a change in music scene.. so what a better place to start!.
Hey guys, her concert program in Singapore will be quite different from what we've got here. The first half will be classical with an orchestra. The second half will be pop. That sounds very interesting. Too bad none of us here are going.
