How was Hong Kong? I'm not crazy about big cities, but for some reason I like HK. My cousin lives overlooking Tai Tam Harbour. It was on a ferry from Macau to HK in 1998 that I first saw Vanessa-Mae - on the video screen of course. They had a bit on her right before the documentary on Jackie Chan!

I like wandering around the backstreets. I hiked across Lantau Island where I saw a huge snake and some angry dogs! The heat was oppressive (August), but overall I really enjoyed it.

Sorry for the late reply Tomm.

Yes my Fiancee told me not to visit in August due to the heat
and humidity, that's why i went in November.
From the moment i stepped off the plane i fell in love with
the place.
I have lived in a city all my life and like you I hate them, so
as much as i can i head to the Welsh hills for my relaxation.
But compared to Hong Kong Birmingham (UK) is a village
I have never seen a building that tall before and to see so
many was mind blowing!!
My Fiancee took to has many tourist spots has my 9 days
allowed. I was in awe when she took me up the peak at
night, i so much wish that i had taken a tripod for my camera.
The view is incredible I envy any one who lives there or gets
the opportunity to live there. Even with all of the hustle and bustle
of the people rushing about doing their business the City feels
so relaxed it has to be the strangest feeling going.
I recommend every one to visit Hong Kong, next year when i return
to visit my Girl i will see if i can get the same dates has when
Vanessa is doing a concert there that will be so cool.

Yes, the view from the peak is spectacular - even if the building itself is ugly. They have a nice little French cafe there, and a funny (not always intentionally) history of Hong Kong ride that tries to be Disney-ish. I love it when the typhoon knocks over the fake palm tree!

I took the elevator to the observation level of the Bank of China building. That's also an amazing view.
