Youll be going for ever to fix up windows problems.
theres always one security hole after another within windows, and the worst part is microsoft usually knows about the problems as well, most of the time microsoft puts them down as 'bugs'. although they are slowly handing out updates to fix some of the problems.

Try the other solution Microsoft gives on his pages:
GET A FIREWALL.

A good firewall will protect you from hackers.
There are plenty of good (free) firewalls around on the net like Zonealarm.
I use Esafe for years now (firewall + anti virus) which does a great job.
Only bad thing is that after version 3.0 it was not freeware anymore.
But they still give updates on a regular basis regarding vandals and viruses. :D

This does not include the one shipped with Windows XP either. That one let my PC get hacked within four days, and I had to re-install.

I stated a GOOD firewall :D

Esafe is not a good option when using XP.
Had it installed at a pc of a friend of mine and did not work (conflicts etc.)
Now she uses Zonealarm and is very happy.
