To the surprise of Prince fans everywhere, he released a new album to music club members today (Jan. 1, 2003) on his web-site. It's an instrumental jazz album which widely features Vanessa Mae doing some fantastic jazz violin. So, I decided to look into her and found myself here. :)

But nowhere on any Vanessa Mae web sites do I see mention of her collaborations with Prince on this album. So, I suspect that she intentionally kept this secret (probably at Prince's request). So, I thought I'd inform the Vanessa Mae fans here. (Are there any Prince fans on this forum? Doubtful...) I myself am new to Vanessa Mae, and find her work on Xpectation to be fantastic.

Let's just hope Prince releases this album to retail so that VM fans can get it in the future.

Happy New Year!

Nice to hear that! Prince featuring Candy Dulfer (she's maybe the only woman who had/has success with the saxophone) and V-M. This a must!

Oh, I think people are referring to the "One Nite Alone... Live" box set now... That's something different. It does feature saxophonists Candy Dulfer, Maceo Parker, and I think Eric Leeds (not sure). But it does not include Vanessa Mae.

But the album with Vanessa Mae is "Xpectation", and is only available for download by music club members at this URL:

Xpectation Download

The NPG Music Club is currently under renovations, so I don't know if it's possible to join the club until sometime in the future.

Sorry if anyone ordered the box set expecting VM to be on it... It's a fantastic box set on its own though, so you won't be disappointed. :)

Cheers!

OK,.. So how do we mere mortals get this CD?
- Cannot unless you are a NPG Music Club Member.
When will it be available to the general public?
- According to Prince's people, probably by April 2003.
The NPG Music Club Release is in 256 Kbps MP3 format.
Which of the below have Vanessa featured? Most Maybe?

The album is entitled "Xpectation"
The album is composed of nine instrumental pieces:
- Xhalation [ 2:03 ]
- Xcogitate [ 3:33 ]
- Xemplify [ 5:53 ]
- Xpectation [ 4:01 ]
- Xotica [ 3:05 ]
- Xogenous [ 4:11 ]
- Xpand [ 6:10 ]
- Xosphere [ 3:34 ]
- Xpedition [ 8:23 ]

Total = 40:53

The listed musicians are:
- Candy Dulfer: acoustic and electric saxophone
- John Blackwell: battery
- Vanessa Mae: violin
- Prince: keyboards/guitars
- Rhonda Smith: low
- Silence: itself!!

Here are some track by track details that I have put together into a PDF file on Prince's Xpectation MP3 Release that features our girl Vanessa.

Can you "GeminiTO" offer us a listen to a Track or 2?
I can offer time limited webspace for it that you can control.

OK GeminiTO,

Vanessa-Mae is indeed not this 3cd live boxset. I am sure this box is still very interesting.

Lets keep an eye on this other album. It must become available sometime.

I'm still hoping some nice Prince fan will offer us a listen to some of the 9 tracks from this "Internet" release.

In the interim I'm providing Xenophobia - Live for people to listen to which ?might? be similar in style to a few of the 9 mp3's offered by Prince. Note: Xenophobia is not part of the mp3 release and does not include Vanessa-Mae; I'm just throwing it out for the curious. ¿

I sent an email to the NPG Music Club yesterday. They repleid to me that they don't accept new memebrs anymore. The album may become available in the spring, but no definite plans or schedules have been made.
