Does Vanessa-Mae has a name-day? In addition to this, what do we know about the nature of her religion?

A fan submitted this question to Sebastian (http://www.vanessa-mae.art.pl/), who passed it through to me with the assumption that I might have some information about the topic.

To my knowledge, only people of Roman Catholic religion have name-days. They are named after a Saint and they adopt this Saint's birthday as their name-day, and sometimes even celebrate this day as their own birthday.

I know that Vanessa-Mae is religious, but she has never said anything about the nature of her persuation, nor on her level of practicing her believe.

I don't think that Vanessa-Mae has a name-day, even if she has the Roman Catholic religion.

This topic might have the interests of more members! That is why I submit the initial question to this forum. Is there anyone who has more information or ideas on this? Is my assumption regarding 'name-days' correct?

At 1:56 into the Classical 1 EPK, VM is shown with a cross around her neck. The cross appears to be in the Catholic style (that is, with Christ on the cross).

joe is right about Catholic styled cross hanging on a necklace on Vanessa-Mae's chest. I've seen her wear it quite often, including in the 'Storm on world Tour' movie too.

Here is a photo made in London summer 2001whre she has the cross also:

I'm also interested in knowing if Vanessa-Mae has a religion or not.

Wearing a cross doesn’t necessarily mean that she's Catholic it could just be fashion.

Well, I am going to disagree with this statement. However, I am not going into detail about it, nor am I going to start a huge arguement about it.

IMO, her religion is her own personal choice.

From my memories, her family was not religious.
There was no Saturday or Sunday worship, nor religious items or discussion. Though I think there was a small buddha statue on the bookshelf in the music room.

Some people wear a cross just for fashion reasons indeed. Also a Buddha image in the house can have decorative purpose only.

I have Dutch newspaper article from 1998 which states that Vanessa-Mae has religious interests and that she is an entertaining person to speak about this subject.

I have the idea that I've read in some other article that she believes in God. However, I can't remember when and where I've read this. A believe in some God does not necessary imply that you must have a persuation for a specific religion.

Of course her religion is her own personal choice

I will try to find the article.

In Asian homes Buddha statue or image is quite often present but is more often for cultural decoration that for religious reasons. Our family is not religious but we have Buddha statue on a small table near our front door. He is there for "good luck" and the occasional fun discussion as he is quite cute.

Many Asian homes (and businesses) also have small religious looking shrines tucked in a corner. These are mini shrines to honor ones ancestors typically and are more cultural than religious.

As for Vanessa, being a celebrity, discussing religion can be a very difficult topic. There are many people who go to unreasonable extremes in relation to religion so it is always best policy to say as little as possible and when pressed be as generic as possible.

I agree with Glenn. I too think that Vanessa-Mae considers and keeps her ideas about religion as a private matter. The same holds for political issues.

When asked about her ideas she will probably answer in universal terms without any specifics. In this way, she protects her privacy and avoids any controversy.

I think that is a very wise thing to do for someone in her position.
