Topic: Vanessa-Mae: why do we admire and like her so much - Because of her music or her looks?

I became a fan of Vanessa-Mae when I heard her music. I didn't even know her face so I guess that answers your question in nutshell.

Although Vanessa is beautiful, her looks do not appeal to me and the only reason why I am a fan is because her music sustains my interest.

Rodion Schchedrin did compose the Carmen Suite which is an adaptation of Bizet's opera but it was done for ballet so thus, no vocals and just instrumentation using percussion and orchestra. Maybe that is what you are looking for? It is quite a popular piece for figure skating.

Ah the purpose of my post was to have your opinions on the new album - not to have a Vanessa-Mae vs. Bond debate (that's why I posted this in the off-topic part of the board). Well as you may guess, I really do like Bond's music. It is similar to Vanessa-Mae but I feel that both offer different ...

I'm a huge fan of Bjork and Coldplay on top of Vanessa-Mae. Other than that I do have quite a diverse range of music -

Googoo Dolls
Sarah McLachlan
Bond
Kylie Minogue
Oasis
Travis
Enigma
Raul di Blasio
Rachmanninov
Good Charlotte

To name a few

Hey y'all. has anyone picked up Bond's new album yet? I'm very excited at being able to be treated by another album by Bond. These girls do have really good and upbeat songs. I've noticed their new album follows the first album in the same vein in that most of the songs are arrangements of other ...

Hey gang, I found this link on the Sailormoon S Music Collection

It was commercially released in Japan only (I'm assuming) in 1994. Considering the Violin Player was released in 1995 - her first techno-acoustic fusion album and the one one that made her fusion style famous that is evident in this ...

Actually I must admit I find it very very humourous Vanessa-Mae is credited for composing 'Chariots of Fire' and 'Phantom of the Opera' when its universal that Vangelis and Webber wrote these pieces respectively. :D

That is strange.. the Australian release also did not have 'Art of War' and I'm not sure whether 'Best of..' will be released here either so I won't be able to listen to 'Art of War' in the car stereo any time soon. =(

Thanks Rijko that's a very interesting and assuring perspective. I'm glad for Vanessa-Mae that she's really developing as an artist and she is now in full control of her career. The fact that she is now willing to compose her own work is a huge and daring step IMO and shows her maturity musically ...

According to the following CNN article, Vanessa-Mae is "changing styles" :

http://asia.cnn.com/2002....ex.html

Does this mean she won't be composing or arranging songs along the lines of "I'm A Doun" or "Bach Street Prelude"? I surely hope not because I love that style of music from her ...

I wish her tours were less Europe and Asia-centric, well from what I have read anyway. I have been hoping she would come down to Australia.. I'm sure we would love her down here. And also Canada and the States. I know she isn't as popular there as she is in Asia and Europe but a little promotion if ...
