Hi there,
Xanthippe> yeap, sure, I was there, right at the front row. I am not good at recalling content of concerts. It's just my impresion: Vanessa played music from all of her "modern music" albums ( I don't like to call them "pop" albums
), but the spirit was very much of that which I feel when listening "Choreography". There were much more quiet pieces this time than in any her concert which I had visited before. Vanessa herself was perfect as always (anyway, you can't expect anything but the perfection from the player of her level, can you?), even if it possibly was just short trip for few concerts to Baltic countries to keep player's instincts and to earn some cash for X-mas gifts
, rather than a part of big tour.
One thing makes me always sad in her concerts- thats ban for taking a photos. As a big fan of photography, I like simply to take some shoots for memory from everywhere I go, and sure I am disappointed that I could not do it at my favourit player's concert (ok, I still took few pictures, but it almost cost me my place, security was very strick on that). I really can't understand why Vanessa is so shy
eva03> no, not Czech. Sure, Lithuanian websites writes about Vanessa's concert in capital of Lithuania Vilnius in Lithuanian, not in Czech
most of that content is usual and for all of you well known stuff introdusing Vanessa and her music for a reader. So I will translate only some impresions and little interesting details.
1st website writes, that Vanessa came to Vilnius from Riga with her mother (last time I read anithing about her she was still in very cold relationships with her mother, so it was a little surprice for me), and both of them spent all afternoon walking in the old town and town centre of Vilnius. I know from previous times, that Vanessa has some special relationships with this town, because at the beggining of XX century here was born and spent his first 20 years of life her favourite violin player, sorry, can't remember his name
Anyway, everyone was impressed by her simplicity and warm character, cause most of people (organisers and press) are used to arrogance of starts.
2nd website recalls diferent impresions and pays the biggest attention for recall, how Vanessa and her management made everything to avoid any contact with photographers and journalists.
3rd (blog) recalls impressions from the concert. Here, as well as everywhere else, impressions were VERY possitive. And coments mostly were very possitive, here in Vilnius public always loved Vanessa, this time wasn't an exeption

Hi Dario, thanks for your info.
I don't think that the restrictions to make photos at her concert has anything to do with Vanessa-Mae's wishes.
In July 2001, I witnessed Vanessa-Mae rehearsing for her concert in Zurich. This was at an open courtyard of a museum in the centre of the city. When I started to make photos, a security guard came to me and asked to stop. Of course I stopped but asked whehter photography was allowed at the concert that evening. The guy, who was a member of Vanessa-Mae's crew, told me that Vanessa-Mae herself didn't mind photos taken as long as no flashlights were used.
At another concert, Vanessa-Mae walked from the stage towards the audience and, of course, many people started to make photos then. Vanessa-Mae practically posed in front of us allowing many photos to be taken.
So I think she doesn't care that fans make photos of her at concerts.
I suppose the venue holders and concert ortganisers prohibit photogrpahy from the audience to protect professionals position and to prevent that others than professionals bring their photos to commercial exploitation.

hi Xanthippe,
I used my Canon Power Shot S3 IS camera, optical image stabilizer really makes it's work, at least when performer is almost stationary.
Yes, I had possibly the best seat in the house, the very middle of front row. As I said before, photo shooting for public was prohibited, but during first 2 songs there were 8-10 professional photographers allowed to make some shoots, and as most of them sit on the floor near me, I pretended to be one of them. So these pictures were made in first 5 minutes of the show
Sadly by unknown reason in most concerts in East Europe photo shooting is prohibited
I visited many concerts in UK during last few years, but never had same problem and usually made hundreds of nice pictures

Hi Dario,
Very smart of you to mingle with the professional photograpphers.
Thanks for your additional information.
I was at Vanessa-Mae's concert in London in the Royal Festival Hall in 2004 in October. I was close to be thrown out by an over-active servant who really set himself the task to prevent photography. I encountered the same problems during other concerts of Vanessa-Mae in Germany.
I know that Vanessa-Mae herself doesn;t mind fans to take photos as long as no flash lights are used. Vanessa-Mae practically posed in front of the audience in Berlin (Dec. 2001) when she walked from the stage towards the fans. Many came down from their seats to take photos and Vanessa-Mae enjoyed every piece of it as she smiled constantly and showed herself into the cameras to allow nice photos.
Of course, taking pictures and use these commercially exploitation is prohibited but mosts photos taken by fans are just for memory purposes.

eva03> thanks
Xanthippe> yeap, I guess that is not Vanessa's request. I saw her possing for public in her concert in Vilnius back in 1998 too. I think as many other performers, she ask organisers to ensure just that there will be no unauthorised photos or videos taken for comercial purposes. But most of security goes just the easiest way- total ban for any photo shoots
I was kindly surpriced last year at Europe's concert in Birmingham (UK), where security very profesionally dealed with their work, in the middle of wild crowd catching someone with profesional video camera, but saying not a single word for those hundreds of fans, making photos for their own memories. Would like to see that kind of security work more often 8)
