Thank you Rijko for the uploads, very interesting and entertaining documentary. It is unfortunate that there was no reconciliation between Vanessa and her mother, but there's still time.Xanthippe wrote:Here are the links for interested to download the documentary:

Vanessa-Mae in 'The Making Of Me'

Thank you Rijko very much!
The conclution that I made for myself from this documentary, that while Vanessa may be angry on Pamela for lost childhood, we should be thankful to Pamela for having Vanessa the way that she is and who she is now. Cruel true is that while damaging childhood of her daughter, Pamela gave music genius for all of us

Apparently, Vanessa-Mae does not really blame her mother, and she does not feel sorry about all the sacrifices she made and the lost childhood; it all contributed to made her who she is today. Although, she definitely states she would do her motherhood differently once she has a child of her own.
I think there is room for reconciliation in the future. Afterall, Pamela agreed to do the same personality test as Vanessa-Mae did. Pamela had nothing to gain from that for herself, so I guess she did that for her daughter Vanessa-Mae in the hope she'll take the benefits from it.
Perhaps, reconciliation in front of a camera was too much to ask from Pamela. Hopefully, both will meet soon away from publicity.

I agree with Rijko, I didn't get the sense that Vanessa-Mae blamed her mother for pushing her. I think the point was she could have done that with unconditional love and support that a parent should have for his or her child.
Some of the more interesting things I've learned in this interview:
1) I didn't know Vanessa-Mae actually had her hair cut for the China Girl album. I've always thought it was a wig. Furthermore, I didn't know it was done against her wishes.
2) The outfit in her infamous Toccata & Fugue music video was approved by Pamela, although Vanessa-Mae now thinks in hindsight that it would be not be appropriate for a 15 year old to wear what she wore for that video. My thoughts are that by today's standards, what she wore was pretty tame. But I'd have to concede that I wouldn't allow my daughter to wear the 'hot pants' as they're called.
3) A little side note: I've read/heard somewhere way in the past that Vanessa's parents paid 100,000 pounds for the Guadagnini violin she plays now. According to wikipedia, her violin is now worth around $500,000 U.S.D. I'd say that it is likely the violin is worth a lot more. Consider the fact that David Garrett had another Guadagnini made in 1772 (Vanessa's was made in 1761), which was smashed to pieces when he fell after a concert (wow, doesn't that sound familiar??? lol). He just had purchased that violin for $1,000,000.
4) Does anyone have any idea what kind of pickup Vanessa uses for her acoustic violin?

Benji, I remember an article in which Vanessa-Mae described the equipment she uses, including the pickup for her acoustic violin. I must have it somewhere as pdf and will try to locate it. Just give me some time for this.
About the hair cut. The China Girl hairdo must have been a wig. If you look at photos made in the period of end 1997 (release Storm in europe, China Girl in the USA) and say half way 1998, Vanessa-Mae alternated between long hair and the china girl style.
At the China Girl promotional free concert on Leicester Square in January 1998, she had the short hairdo (wig). Later in the Storm Tour, she had long hair again, as she did again during her performance in May at the Eurovision song contest. I saw her on German television in a talk show with long hair too, that was in end of May. Also, at the Storm concert in The Hague that I visited on June 9th, Vanessa-Mae had also long hair.
Maybe the long hair was styled differently, getting it more thin in order to get it underneath the wig, but a complete drastic haircut as she had in 1999 is impossible: she must be wrong in that.
I agree, I too wouldn't like to see my daughter in those hot pants, although I guess it is really tame indeed with respect to styles we see in clips frequently. I never liked those loud colours also. She also had a few nice short dresses (see the T&F clip) that I really prefer to see her in, definitetely.
Vanessa-Mae's parents bought the Guadagnini in 1988 at an auction for GBP 150,000. I am sure it is worth a lot more these days. There is only one way to find out and that is bring the instrument to an auction again. I am sure Vanessa-Mae will never do such thing. She is much too attached emotionally to her instrument.
BTW, for those interested, Vanessa-Mae's violins page of my website summerizes some information about the violins that Vanessa-Mae uses. If there are any comments, or suggestions for improvement, please let me know!

Revelations for me were:
The mystery of Vanessa-Mae's not having a computer in her "flat" is solved!
She uses a wireless laptop; perfect for our girl on the go!
Vanessa-Mae is an extrovert. This was surprizing to me because I had read an interview where she said she had to push herself to be more open to the public. We know how very private she is.
It is gratifying that she is conscientious. This is probably why she has stayed with Lionel so long with no hint of infidelity or scandal even though she likes the excitement of trying new things.

New Blue Eyes, V-M's #1 USA fan!
The documentary was really good! I enjoyed watching it. Thank you Xanthippe!
In the first part of documentary I notice Vanessa-Mae is using a new Ted Brewer violin similar to the Vivo 4-string model(http://www.tedbrewerviolins.com/violins/vivo/index.php), and not the Crossbow (http://www.tedbrewerviolins.com/violins ... /index.php) that she's been using since the release of Subject To Change.
