Vanessa-Mae to ski for Thailand at the 2014 winter games?
Various media in Thailand, Germany and the UK report that Vanessa-Mae plans to start as down hill skier for Thailand during the coming Winter Olympics of Sochi in 2014. According to the media, the Thai Olympic Committee approved Vanessa-Mae's participation, who is now awaiting final approval from the International Ski Federation. Final confirmation from Vanessa-Mae herself on this issue is still lacking.
Vanessa-Mae was said to ski for Thailand already during the 2002 Winter Olympics of Salt lake City. At that time, Thailand insisted that Vanessa-Mae should give up her UK nationality in order to get a Thai passport, which Vanessa-Mae was not willing to do. However, in 2002, Vanessa-Mae was granted the Thai nationality, because Thailand felt that the country benefits from merits and achievements of people like Vanessa-Mae who have Thai ancestry.

Hi Xanthippe! I also read this in newspaper yesterday. It's really something great and interesting!!! Vanessa Mae has no limits! I hope she will succeed.By the way, when first time I've read it,I actually don't understand,I simply thought, that she will perform in 2014,Winter games, but when I looked with more attention then WOW!!! She surprise me really! It's really hard to compete with ski professionals and in Olympic winter games!!!! She practices ski a lot now maybe! It would be interesting to see her in such way! But I want that she keep playing violin and keep create new Music and maybe realise new album.Good luck Vanessa Mae!!!
Re: Vanessa-Mae to ski for Thailand at the 2014 winter games
To be honest, I am not thrilled by the idea of her skiing at 2014 Olympics. It can be dangerous, and, besides, I want her to focus on her career as violinist and musician.
On the other hand, we know that she is a sensation seeker from The Making Of Me documentary. This experience can deepen and broadening her personality and her creativity for new music might very well benefit from this.
Vanessa-Mae should do it if she really wants it, but I want her to be careful and act responsible and not take too many risks.
We must trust her on this!

R & X,
The Olympics is a competition. The goal of a competition is to win. Therefore in the interest of winning, undue risks might be taken. I just hope she is careful. We can not afford to see her hurt or worse. That said, I am confident she will be responsible.

I always thought she is crazy....but i like it. Sometimes you need the sensation to do other things in your life.
If she wants to do it, do it. But one thing she has to think is that it's a little risk for her profession. That's all.

I fully agree with you Xanthippe,CarrollTowerCX and Erzeta! I really hope that she will be careful in this sport if she will decide to paricipate in 2014 winter games.Sport is good thing but it is competition all the time.Music and Art is a little bit different, there is no such competition. It's an art,art of expression, without rivalry and this is so wonderful. That creates magic. There are many great artists in the world and everyone has own look, charisma, style, so on.In music, performances, creativity, expression is more important than only results..It gives good vibrations, good energy.I really hope Vanessa Mae will protect herself and will be very careful in olympic sport games. But I like it too! It's really something, new, new sensation for her and all her fans, indeed.Vanessa, good luck if you will participate in 2014 winter games and be very careful. We love You!

E and R,
Vanessa-Mae is very much a thrill seeker. She has said that she learned to ski the same time she started to learn the Violin, (5 years old?). Though I dread the consequence of and accident, we can only trust in her Undoubted Skill, hope for the best and hope she enjoys herself tremendously.
Good Luck V-M, and be careful !

does anyone can just go and ski in Olympics? Is there no need for achieving some results to be allowed to compete in Olympics? With all respect to Vanessa, she never did it on any proffesional level, she will be already 35 at that time, and that will be very sad thing to watch.
That would be the same insult to sport as it would be for music to let some sportsman (who hardly had his 3 lessons of violin or piano) to compete in the most elite music contest

Dario,
As much as I would rather she did not do this, she has said she has been skiing since she started on the violin. I understand Vanessa-Mae is a very good skier. But as I have said here before, the Olympics is a competition, and the idea of a competition is to win. And to win, undue chances might be taken. I hope if she does do this that she dosen't get hurt of worse. The decision is hers. So the best of luck to Vanessa-Mae!

Vanessa-Mae will need to qualify for the Olympics. Probable she needs to set some defined results in tournaments preceding the Olympics, maybe at word championships downhill skiing!
This will not be easy for her as she has never competed in a skiing event on a professional level.
