We have discussed this Sailor Moon song in this forum several times before.

Quite a fascinating piece even though not by our Vanessa-Mae. :)

I am wondering where the idea comes from, initially, that this Sailor Moon track is played by Vanessa-Mae. Does anyone has any idea how this idea started?

Rijko,

As far as I know it started as a topic on the old forum.
At that time there was a website which had several mp3 files of vanessa mae which included the sailor moon track.
All these mp3 files where downloaded for me and put on a cd by a relative of mine.
The rumor just spread like wildfire then.
It sounded somewhat like vanessa Mae, but we all agreed that it was not in the end.
I can not remember the website anymore unfortunatly. :(

This track is nowhere on any official release of Vanessa-Mae. Nowhere is any thing officially said or mentioned on a collaboration of Vanessa-Mae with this project. Vanessa-Mae has never said anyting on this herself.

Is this Sailor Moon an official release of a respectable record copmpany? Can you actually buy this cd somewhere in a store or via amazon.com? I have only seen it on a few of those obscure like napster and kazaa.

Listening to the violin on this track, I don't believe that it is Vanessa-Mae playing there. She would have played it all so much better.

I have never heard or seen anything to make me convince that this can be attributed to vanessa-Mae.

I found this link:

There are tracks attributed to Vanessa-Mae that don't even have a violin on it!! 'Chariots of Fire' is mentioned somewhere, to give an example.

Where actually comes this Sailor Moon song from?
Who composed it?
Where was it recorded and on which label?

I know of a few other unfamiliar Vanessa-Mae songs, but all these tracks are mentioned on record company websites and Vanessa-Mae has mentioend them herself.

On a George Martin cd is a track 'Because' that is attributed to Vanessa-Mae. The cd has old Beatles songs that are restructured for a few famous artists. George Martin explains that he rewrote this song for violin espacially for Vanessa-Mae.

'Velvet Rope' of course an officially featiures Vanessa-Mae on Janet Jackson's cd 'The Velvet Rope.'

We know that Vanessa-Mae appeared on live stage in 1998 in Argentina with the Back Street Boys to play a song with them. There are video images of this performance. The song can be downloaded as audio file at audiogalaxy.

I have seen Vanessa-Mae on German tv together with
the Scorpions playing one of their mosty famous songs. Also this song can be downloaded via audiogalxy and probably from several other sites as well

Vanessa-Mae had an official collaboration with Takuro of the band Japanese band Clay. This cd is commercially available in Japane and Hong Kong.

All these songs can be tracked down easily. Their origin is clear. This in sharp contrast with the origin of the Sailor Moon song, which remains rather vague. I have never seen or read anything that can track down the Sailor Moon track. That is why I don't believe that it is Vanessa-Mae. I searched on the internet for it, but I couldn't find anything convincingly.

Anyone who has more information to settle this??

Hey gang, I found this link on the Sailormoon S Music Collection

It was commercially released in Japan only (I'm assuming) in 1994. Considering the Violin Player was released in 1995 - her first techno-acoustic fusion album and the one one that made her fusion style famous that is evident in this piece, it would make sense that the piece is NOT by Vanessa-Mae.. unless of course, her agent suggested a collaboration which we never heard about.

Hi kernkraft,

Thanks forthe info. This more or less supports my ideas on this issue. Vanessa-Mae isn't mentioned at all on this website.

Okay...I'm a Sailor Moon Expert...I have all of the soundtracks but I downloaded them from the internet. The only thing I say is that on the soundtrack from the third season (Sailor Moon S) there are many violin fusion tracks....but the composer of the entire material (all seasons) is T. Arisawa. However, there isn't on any site the booklet or the complete credits of this CD...so there isn't a confirmation at all...
How it's started? Simple: many person who didn't know it was a song by T. Arisawa, labelled it as a creation of Vanessa-Mae hearing the techno-fusion stile...(or so I think)

Encore, thanks very much for this aadditional and somehow clarifying inormation. I think this settles the matter definitely, at least for me.

Vanessa-Mae has nothing to do with Sailor Moon. We can use this topic and all information as reference for any future discusion on this issue.

This matter has proven to be a very persistent rumour and it will probably show up again.

Yeah well...and all this confusion and discussions maybe is made by one man who did a mistake and named the track as creation of Vanessa. :)
