I'm wondering if the hidden track on stc is available on every release worldwide cuz I don't seem to have it on mine.

What can you tell us about your CD (where did you buy it, what is the UPC number)? What is the last track, and how long is it?

You likely have it and just don't realize it.
If your last track on your CD is #12 "Jamais" and is 9 minutes, 1 second long then you have it !
Saying the track is hidden track is kind of misleading, what's really going on is that the last track of her STC CD is actually 2 songs. The first song ends at the 4:22 time mark, then there is 30 seconds of silence, then the unlisted song begins at the 4:52 mark. This bonus song is called "Tourmaline" by the way.

The original CD was to have 14 tracks, with "Tourmaline" listed and having "Art of War" (aka: Power of C) included. "Art of War" was left off the released of the CD though the Mexico edition of STC evidently includes it.

And, just for your information, the track titled "Solace" was originally titled "Inca Dream", "Picante" was originally titled "Salsa Picante" and "Night Flight" was originally titled "Jean-Luc".

In the final reworking of the CD for release, these tracks were renamed, "Art of War" was cut, track order shifted a bit and the strange combining of "Jamis" and "Tourmaline" into the last track was done (maybe to avoid having 13 tracks).

BTW, Ever notice how short the China Girl CD is? Well, one track was cut from it just before it's release trimming 10+ minutes off it's length. That track, who's title I forget, was by Tan Dun and it is a real shame it never made it onto that or any other CD.

Hey thanks Glenn for that info on China Girl.

I noticed indeed that the cd is short, but I didn't know that they skipped one track of 10 minutes in the final release.

Glenn, did you ever hear this piece by Tan Dun and do you have any idea why it was skipped?

I had this piece on a CD-R that VM's management had given me. Unfortunately the CD-R became damaged not long after I had received it will not play in any CD-drive I've tried. I had only listened to it a handful of times. It was a nice, relatively quiet orchastral piece that seemed to fit with the other tracks in the CD. I remember it being relatively long,.. 8 to 16 minutes. I have never seen nor heard it since.
:(
So the original China Girl was to be a 4 track CD, but with the dropped track it was released as a 3 track CD. Later editions of China Girl upped the track count (I think to 7) by adding track pionts within longer passages (common thing a classical recordings). My guess is they raised the track count so people didn't feel cheated even though time length of the CD is unchanged.

Thanks for the info Glenn,
actually Tan Dun is great composer (he did a great Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon movie soundtrack), really shame that this track is not on any release.

We don't know why Vanessa-Mae and EMI decided to skip the Tan Dun track. Maybe she had a good reason!!

As for upping the count track on China Girl. I bought it immediately after its release and it has a track count of five.

Butterfly Lover Violin concerto

track 1 Act 1; track 2 Act 2; track 3 Act 3

track 4 Violin Fantasy on Turandot

track 5 Happy Valley

Quite a normal way of counting, I guess!!

Saw the cd in the store this evening and it still has the same 5 trasks.

The running time of the cd is a good 44 minutes. Not too long, but certainly also not espacially short.

Everything seems quite normal to me.

Very interesting, mine has 3 Tracks.
See it at: http://im.on-d.net/cg.jpg

Rijko, can you provide a scan (100dpi) for your CD so we can all compare. Any one else have a count that may differ from that of Rijko & me?

I am going to look for the announcement info I have on the release of CG and see what it says an hopefully provide some more details here.

Ok, Got it.
The cut track that was to be placed before "Happy Valley" as track 3 of 4 was:
"Violin Solo - A movement on Chinese Opera" by Tan Dun.

I have no other information about it, sorry.

Glenn,

On the classical album 2 ( China Girl) I read somewhere that for the Dutch market the Butterfly Lover concerto was cut in three pieces.
I cannot remember the exact reason for this.
That could explain the difference between your copy and Rijko (and my :) ) copy

Hi Glenn,

Thanks for the fax sheet and the scan of your booklet. Very interesting to see this.

I uploaded the backside of my China Girl cd to Yahoo club photo album. See:

http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group.....view=t

All three movements of the violin concerto are listied. This makes the track count 5.

This way of track listing is quite common for a classical record. It was also done on Vanessa-Mae's Classical Albums 1 and 3

My china girl CD has 3 tracks as well. As do most of the American releases I've seen. however, I've seen some with the 5 tracks as Rijko has mentioned.

I saw some files named with butterfly concerto ACT 1, ACT 2
what does it mean?

What's the difference compared to the 26 minutes long Butterfly Concerto?
