I think Glenn's site already has a really really comprehensive discography with all the cat. numbers and such. Or are you referring to something different?
Street_rat and I are working on the discography for the archives section, which is quite basic so far (same as what was on the old site) but it will be searchable, and you can list them by date/name etc. Since it's database driven I'm sure it's not too hard to add and modify things we have in the discography, so let me know if there's any special features you guys may find useful.
Actually now I think I know what you mean. You want to list the releases by country? Yeah I think that's quite useful, since her discography is really really long (at such a young age too ??? ). Good suggestion
Maybe add availability information, is that CD still sold ....
There seems to be many differences in the release on different continents. To the best of my knowledge none of the single and remix albums where ever sold in america, the Enhanced version of Classical album 1 never found its way out here either and the enhanced Best of was on sale for only a few weeks...
I m not sure if those differences are based on the country or the continent ...
This kind of DB might rapidly become a pain to maintain tho
BTW... I m now an unemployed Java software engeneer (yet another victim of the dot com bust). Used to work on e-commerce and m-commerce back-end systems. If that kind of skill set can be used... i m at your disposal.
It is with great regret that after extensive Search and Rescue operations i had to declare my Violin Player CD AWOL. I smell foul play and maybe even a cover up, rest assured that a full inquiry will be held to solve the mistery of the disapperance. Several Natalie Imbruglia and Sting CD's are currenly being held hostage.
So i went out to get another copy of the violin player. Guess i was very lucky i stumbled on a version that has the raggae version of classical gas as a bonus track. I never saw that versions on any canadian online store and any real store either. Catalog number: 7 24347 82712 9
May be we should take a different approach for the discography... list all the catalog numbers and specify in which country they have been sighted instead of building a list by country. Anyways , if this is stored in a DB and not a static page its just a mather of putting the right SQL queries to get any info you want...
Well, not really. I thought doing everything by html was a pain in the ass after about a year or so, that's why I planned the new revamp to be in php/mysql. Street_rat is doing a very good job with fixing up a script to do all the uploading, so all we gotta do is plug in the numbers and hit a button and it's up.
With the link to buying cds, there are lots of them. Do you mean to have a link to every place possible to purchase the cd??
Hey Atreides, might need your help in the near future with programming stuff after we've relaunched the site. We're so choc full of ideas at the moment, we're already planning new things before we finished what we were doing, lol.
well if u want a top notch scripting langauage, learn asp
it does everything u need and is easy to use
so far i havent found any down sides to php, it dose what i need and does it well. much better than cgi. although im sure cgi has its advantages.
Well ... ASP is microsux only... who would want a production server that run on a MS OS ?? well ... if u have a farm of them and a team of sysadmin pressing reboot buton every 30 min Another problem with ASP is that you cant interface with back-end code, so all your code end up in the page, which lead to bad architecture and maintenance nightmares.
PHP is realy nice indeed, it realy good at what it does. It downside is that it remain a scripting language, each time a page is accessed the php code has to be interpreted from scratch, which spawn a process or thread each time. Which also mean that if u interface with database you have to reconnect to it. So PHP cant be used for high traffic sites.
Java is perfect, JSP are compiled on the first access, no need to re interpret them. JSP can access back-end code that can maintain DB connection opens, or share data with other application. Dont underestimate the power of Servlets and EJB's. Java's downside is that to realy exploit it properly you need a team of skilled Java pple, otherwise you will produde the worst pice of scrap ever (i lived tru that once). It need aloth more of thinking and involvement to do the same job, a good architecture is the key.
