Wow! Exceptionally dull packaging. Looks like they threw this together in 40 minutes.
I notice it is copy control CD. I wonder if I really want it now.
It is easy to bypass though. I'll still get it but this limitation piss me off.

It says copy control ... but it also lists PC. I thought Copy Control wouldn't play on a PC.

Correction ... here's a FAQ page (of course, Glenn's comments will do here as well):

http://www.emimusic.com.au/faqs_copy_control.asp

I like this comment:
Each artist is aware of and has given approval for Copy Control technology to be included on their releases. Consequently all of our releases our now being copy controlled and this will continue to be a standard part of our business practice.
Did she now? Or did EMI make this decision for her, if VM isn't still with them?

No Joe what they mean is:
If you put the CD in a PC, a proprietary player will open and the CD will play from files on the CD. The files are audibly very poor, encoded at 32 to 48 Kbps.

If you look at the music side of the CD, at the very outer edge you will see a 2mm wide area followed by a half mm wide clear ring, then back to the regular look of a cd all the way to the inner. That 2mm section is the PC data that has the auto run featureless player and mp3 style data files of the CD. When you consider how narrow that section is you realize how compressed the files are. When your PC laser comes to the blank ring it assumes the CD data ends and never gets to the actually CD-Music. When you put this CD in your normal CD player it goes right past the PC data as it is unreadable and ignored and goes straight to the music. Problem is some CD & DVD players have trouble and try and read this data and then eject the disk as faulty.

Need I say more?

Hmmm. By chance does the old CDFS.VXD (by cyber7?) hack work? This is a file that makes the audio CD look like Windows Explorer (with subfolders for 8-bit, 16-bit sound at various Mhz levels).

Also, I suppose a simple CD to CDR Copier doesn't resolve the issue. (someone had to ask!)

No that hack doesn't work. But if you have old CD drive 1X or 2X non multisession it will play CD and allow MP3 burns.
CD copy programs, even clever ones are useless.
DOS base hack doesn't work either, unless you have very old CD drive.

All these hacks dont work as the CD drive only sees the 2mm section of the CD which has a single file that auto runs on your PC. It is proprietry file but just contains poop poop player and super compressed audio file of CD that is often so poor it is hard to listen to.

Easiest hack is to cover the outer edge in 2 to 4 places with tape covering the 2mm area and end in the clear ring. You do not need to cover all,.. just enough to mess up the data read so it continues to the music. Tape should be have frosted look (not glass clear). It must also be firm against CD and well trim at perimeter,.. you don't want to bump your laser. I recommend you burn CD immediatly (8 to 16x max) after mask then use your burn copy for MP3 create. This is what I did. I don't do it to trade or steal music, I do it so I can listen as I please to the CD I bought. I say did as I now use old Win 98 PC with ancient CD drive and copy or convert there.

If ppl want I can take pic of what this "Tape fix" look like.

Thanks for the 1 to 8. Is there a 9? Perhaps last page? Based on the scan of 8, 9 seems to be only a large picture of the Best Of cover.

OK, my site has been updated!

Even added a thank you to Arioch on the contact page!

I even included a disclaimer that some images may have come from Maysan and Glenn (is that a first?).

I have scoured the net and I can not find any advertisments
or reviews for the Ultimate collection. I even couldn't find a mention of it in CFM.
Any one else have any joy in finding something?

Hi all.

I have a problem which is much worse than not being able to find the Ultimate collection.

I saw it in my LOCAL HMV last week, and I couldn't afford it! It was priced at £6.99, and I still can't afford it until Friday, and even then it's choice between a 21st birthday present for my boyfriend or the CD. :( I hate being poor.
