In the words of Vanessa-Mae herself. Here is the origin of the name GIZMO.

" My father bought me this violin when I was 10, my acoustic violin, and it was just, it was an old instrument, because it was made in 1761. So I felt it had already been alive before me, and the same time I was very much into pets. Which I still am, see, but more into cuddly toys, than which I'm not into, thank goodness, now. But there was a film called 'Gremlins', and there was this really cuddly little GIZMO, and I just thought I got to call my violin GIZMO, and it's called a Guadagnini, my violin. So I just felt the two went together, GIZMO to Guadagnini......."

So there you are.

Thank you for the compliment. Yes I am new to Vanessa-Mae, not having discovered her until December last year. I think I have fresh ideas, and am always looking for something different. I am currently working on 3 big projects; A short biography of J.B. Guadagnini, Vanessa-Mae's violin builder, something on the school she went to in London, the Francis Holland School, and her Famous violin teachers, Professor Lin Yao Ji, and Professor Felix Andrevski and also the Yankelevich Method she was taught by Professor Lin. My secret is RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH and a quest to know as much as I can about Vanessa-Mae.

Thank you again for the compliment. I am working diligently to find new information on Vanessa-Mae. Coming here so late I really have to be imaginative and do a lot of digging to find something new that has not been used before.

I owned Gremlins 2 on VHS when I was a kid.

In a recent interview Vanessa-Mae said she no longer calls her violin Gizmo but just 'violin'. It would be interesting to know the history of the Gizmo.
