RE: Sentimental..............

Post by CarrollTowerCX »

Well Boys and Girls,

I am an easy mark for Sentimental Music. While I like ALL of Vanessa-Mae's body of work, I especially like the following pieces that I would classify as Sentimental. They are Beethoven's "Romance No.2 in F", "Warm Air", and today's favorite, "A Poet's Quest".

Tonight, I listened to "A Poet"s Quest" five or six times in succession. I really like this music. I will now try to explain why.

I am not, in anyway, a professional music authority, I am just an enthusiastic music listener who is an aficionado of the Violin and Vanessa-Mae. That said, I will tell you what I find of such interest in this piece, and there is much.

First, Vanessa-Mae's acoustic Violin sounds so mellow and smooth, but speaks with a big and voluminous voice. Her playing goes right to the heart and soul. The melody itself, is what I would term Sentimental. It starts out with the voices of the chorus which go "Down and Under" when Vanessa starts playing so beautifully. In the background you can hear a few notes of an electric organ and the strings of a Bass Violin. Then the chorus, "Comes up Fully", while Vanessa stops playing. Then employing another term of the Radio Directors language, She comes "Up and Over" the chorus. Now you hear Vanessa-Mae play so brilliantly loud and clear, while still hearing the chorus sing. Then the chorus goes "Down and Under" again as Vanessa plays the Violin so loud and crystal clear, it really Sings. While in the background you can hear the strings of a Harp. The music then fades and the most beautiful and sentimental piece is over.

I love this music. In the words of one of my favorite authors, Lucius Beebe, "It is of the First Water"!
