Young international pop violinist Vanessa Mae will perform at the opening of Cape Town's convention centre, chairperson of the centre's board Ebrahim Rasool said on Wednesday.
Rasool, who is also Western Cape finance MEC, said Vanessa Mae would take the stage alongside South African diva Sibongile Khumalo at the event on June 28.
The concert will take place in a specially created 7 000-seat theatre in the centre's exhibition halls.
Four thousand tickets are to be made available to the public, of which 1 000 will be given away through competitions in the media.
The programme will also include multicultural dances and a performance by young musicians from the city.
The centre, which according to its managing director Dirk Elzinga is virtually complete, will host its first client from June 2 to June 4 - the Beqsa business equipment exhibition.
He said the flooding of the canal which stretches from the centre to the V&A Waterfont began on Tuesday. - Sapa
