Very interesting article .. Thanks CarrollTowerCX!
It is sad that there's still no reconciliation between the two, but there is still time left. Rather than looking for blame, it seems to me that Pamela really wanted Vanessa-Mae to succeed with her career even at the cost of their personal relationship. This could be a result of happenstance. Vanessa-Mae and Pamela's childhood having striking similarities: performing at a young age, constantly traveling and giving performances etc. When you become a parent, it's not always so clear cut on which paths to take. You tend to draw on your own experiences in making such decisions.
Did Pamela have a close relationship with her mom during her childhood? Unlikely. She probably occupied the same part of her life that she did with Vanessa: a full time manager and coach. If that indeed is true, how can she demonstrate the love and affection her daughter deserves if she herself has never experienced it? Food for thought ...
In the documentary 'The Making Of Me,' was said that is wasn't so obvious where the musical talents of Pamela and Vanessa-Mae came from. Besides, entertaining other people was not done by members of upper-class circles, like Vanessa-Mae's and Pamela's families were!
Moreover, Vanessa-Mae mentioned in her China Girl notes that her deceased grandfather would probable be not too amused to know that his only grandchild was making her money in the showbiz, at least that were Vanessa-Mae's thinking on this.
I think that Pamela's motivation, personal drive and involvement to manage Vanessa-Mae's career was also a way to make up the lost chances she had when she was at Vanessa-Mae's age.
I am glad to notice that in Pamela's biography now mentions Vanessa-Mae by name as Pamela's daughter.
I too, remember reading somewhere that Pamela's parents looked with disfavor on her entertaining people. That people of her family's class did not do that sort of thing.
I was pleased; when I read the biography; that Pamela mentioned her daughter Vanessa-Mae several times. There may be a reconciliation some time in the future.
The documentary 'The Making Of Me' presenting an in-depth analysis of both Vanessa-Mae's and Pamela's personality, and they appeared to be very alike. Both are proud women but I am sure that they will reconcile somehow in the future and come to a mutual understanding. After all, they are mother and daughter!
