Vanessa-Mae never participated in violin competion awards. I know that she did some master classes for violin in Germany as a little child, but no competition was involved in this.
I think that she entered a competition for piano once at a very young age. The award was for most promising young child with a musical talent.

Joining an official competition also has a risk in it, because a dissapointing result will have a negative input on a persons future career.
Vanessa-Mae didn't take part in any competition for violinists. To my knowledge, she never made any statement on the reason for this.
Obviously, Vanessa-Mae definitely shows that her pure musical talent, exeptional technical skills, together with her strong personality are enough to make success in her career in her own way. She has successfully avoided to follow traditional career pathways and that made her to the unique artist and person that she is today.
